Overuse Injury

During my training, I have tried to incorporate several half marathons to keep up my mileage. On June 22nd, I ran the Slacker Half Marathon, which is mostly downhill. One of the problems that can occur is a strain of the gluteus medius muscle. I felt like there was a knive in my glute. I was able to work that out through stretching, but know I have a knot in my right quadricep.
It's pretty painful in the mornings, but I can work most of it out, so that I can walk without limping. Unfortunately, my running has now come to a standstill so that I don't aggravate it further. I have used a foam roller to work it out and have gone to massage and yoga.

I really hope that it stops hurting. I need to get back to my training, FAST!

How My April Ended

Too bad I couldn't find a .jpg that represented Colorado more accurately, like a big snowstorm over the word "April."

I have been doing a lot of boot camps (before my session expired on 4/30- boo hoo), running on the elliptical and outside, spinning classes, and now "SOCCER." A few weeks ago, I dropped in to see how the Westminster Lunchtime Soccer group was organized and the dynamic. It was a bunch of men (from 30-50+) running around kicking a small black and white ball. I was initially worried that I would be the only woman on the field, but then I thought again.

Who cares if I'm the only woman!

These guys could use some estrogen on the field, so on Tuesday, I bit the bullet and joined them. I didn't want to go too crazy, so I played goalie. I thought that it would be a good way to ease me into the group and save my legs from the lactic acid burn.

I think I earned their respect when I took a shot in the face (just above my nose) and shook it off. Don't worry, no damage was done to this beautiful face.

Now, two days later, I'm still sore from diving and running and reaching for the ball. I'm going to head back into the testosterone pit next week, when we get back into town.

On Monday 4/8, the scale moved up by 0.6 pounds, but I'm guessing that's from all the strength training that I'm doing. I did more strength training this week instead of cardio, but I'm still hoping for a loss since I need to run 12 miles tomorrow.

Have a great weekend!

I Made It To 11

I was scheduled to complete 12 miles of training this morning, but after an elevation gain of 755 feet and 1,300+ calories burned, the 12th mile was left in the dust.

My first half marathon is not scheduled until May 19th, so I still have another 12 mile run on my schedule in a few weeks.

This week was somewhat like last week.

Wednesday- 3/27
Fit Soldiers Boot Camp- 40 Minutes
Denver Gym & Fitness- Elliptical- 40 Minutes

I took off exercising yesterday and today (my son's birthday), because I have a 12 mile run scheduled tomorrow at 7:30am with Runner's Edge of the Rockies.  I'm staying with this group until The Colfax Marathon and moving over to Team in Training for the Rock 'N' Roll Denver Marathon in October.

I feel that the Team in Training model works best for me and I'm excited to see if anyone on my block (or others that I know) would be interested in going to an informational meeting on 4/18 or signing up outright. Don't worry, there is a way out if you are worried about reaching the (completely do-able) minimum fundraising amount.

I'm down almost 15 pounds and with WW and marathon training, I don't question that I will continue to become stronger and lose the weight to be healthy for my family.

I Did It Again

Currently, I'm in the process of training for the Colfax Half Marathon in May, but I just can't stop thinking about the three marathons that I wasn't able to complete because of injuries these last few years; Georgia Marathon, Colfax Marathon and the Walt Disney World Marathon.

Therefore, I've done it again. I've signed up to complete the 2013 Rock 'N' Roll Denver Marathon with the help of Team in Training.

I've completed three half marathons using their program and want to complete my first full with their training program.

I know I'm not going to be the fastest out there, but if I can inspire others to join this wonderful cause and train for an endurance event, I know I'm on the right path.

If I Can Do It, You Can Do It.
Join Me.

I'm going commit to updating this blog once a week.
